Good News! Chinese Society for Horticultural Science Successfully Wins the Bid to Host the 34th International Horticultural Congress

On August 22, 2026, the Council of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) held its meeting in Kyoto, Japan, with representatives from member organizations around the world in attendance. Professor Zhang Youjun, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Horticultural Science (CSHS), led the Chinese delegation to the meeting.

During the session, following an on-site vote, CSHS successfully secured the hosting rights for the 34th International Horticultural Congress (IHC), to be held in August 2034 in Beijing. This is the first time that China has won the bid to host this premier international horticultural science event. Upon its convening, CSHS will provide a high-level academic exchange and collaboration platform for horticultural scientists and professionals worldwide, bringing together cutting-edge insights from the industry, sharing innovative research achievements, fostering cross-country and cross-disciplinary intellectual exchange and technological synergy, and jointly advancing technological innovation, result commercialization, and green sustainable development in the horticultural sector.

The first International Horticultural Congress was held in Brussels, Belgium, in 1864, and to date 32 editions have been successfully convened. It is widely regarded as the "Olympic Games" of the horticultural science community. China's successful bid to host the 34th IHC fully demonstrates the international horticultural science community's high recognition of China's horticultural research capabilities, industrial development achievements, academic influence, and organizational capacities. Going forward, the CSHS will steadily advance the preparatory work for the Congress, with meticulous planning and comprehensive arrangements, striving to deliver a world-class, high-quality, and distinctive international horticultural science event.
